« Back : John Dickie“We could have had a gas supply to our Glasgow development but when Heat Electric provides such good quality, economical heat from electric radiators that look no different from a traditional plumbed wet system, it made perfect commercial sense to specify just under 300 for our latest apartment development.”
Grahame Rennie is Development Director for John Dickie Homes in Glasgow, a developer of premium properties across Scotland’s central belt since 1880. Responsible for specifying the heating for their five-storey, 45-apartment Parkside development in Shawlands, Glasgow, JDH was looking for a system that didn’t need a gas supply, was easy to install, cost effective to run and had minimum visual impact on the inside and outside of the properties.
“John Dickie Homes is renowned for designing and creating homes of the highest quality and in our Parkside development, we wanted a heating system that offered the right aesthetics for the standard of our build but that would run without gas and without the installation and maintenance costs of a boiler.
“Parkside is targeted at a young professional market and because our developments are of premium quality and sensitive to the local environment, the look inside and outside is very important. We didn’t want our living accommodation to house an unsightly heating system or the exterior to be blighted by external flues associated with a gas boiler.
With panel storage heaters never an option because of the quality of the heat generated and lack of controllability, Grahame and his team looked to alternative electric heating options on the market.
“What impressed us about Heat Electric’s electric water filled radiators was that without the need for gas, boilers or professional installers, we could select a range of radiators that not only looked like a conventional, plumbed wet system but is 100% efficient as each one runs from an internal mini boiler which heats the water while a pump circulates it through the unit. This transforms each radiator into an individual self-contained central heating system.
“We compared the overall running costs of electric heating with the equivalent gas central heating option and found there was literally no difference between the two. However, the controllability of the Heat Electric radiators means each one offers an efficient use of energy and produces radiant heat within 10 minutes. Using this system, we have planned our development so that each room can be heated independently, to different temperatures and at different times of the day.
“With energy prices currently rising so fast and the slow-down in the housing market, it is more important than ever that we provide buyers with lifestyle solutions – including giving them more flexibility to use and manage their heating as and when it suits them and not to be governed by the inefficiencies of a gas central heating system.”
Grahame added: “From the aesthetics of the radiators inside the house and the lack of flues on the outside to the overall economies of controlled, efficient heating, in Heat Electric we have found a future proof heating solution which works in harmony with the environment and helps to create a home our buyers can be proud of.”
