Storage Heater (Using
Economy 7 Tariff)
The maximum heat output of a
standard 2.55kW storage heater at the end of a storage period is 1kW.
To maintain the heat at 1kW output,
the storage heater needs topping up with an additional heater towards the end
of the day using day rate electricity at peak rates.
The total consumption of electricity
by the storage heater/direct acting
heater combination to maintain 1kW output during the day may be
calculated as follows:
Storage heater: 2.55kWh for 7 hours
at 6.57p per kWh (overnight charge) = £1.17
Direct heater (late
afternoon/evening) top up: 4.1kWh at 15.21p per kWh = 62.4p
Total daily running cost for storage heater/direct
acting heater combination = £1.79
Hear Electric Radiator (using Standard Rate Tariff)
The running costs for 11hrs of a 1kW
Heat Electric radiator is 12.59p per hour on standard rate
.
HE radiator standard rate: 2hrs x 12.59p
= £0.252
HE radiator standard rate: 9hrs x 12.59p
= £1.133
Total daily running cost for a Heat Electric radiator
= £1.38

Against the storage heater/direct conbination ,the Heat Electric radiator can achieve a saving of 23%
Against the
storage heater/direct combination, the Heat Electric radiator can achieve a saving of 23%.
Under ideal conditions 23% is an achievable saving, however due to
differing heat requirements and dwelling insulation levels this figure may
reduce and to be used as a guide only. However a 10 -15% saving is expected as
a minimum.
Also obtaining a low cost electric tariff such as Economy 10 will also
enhance cost savings to the end user.
Further cost savings can be achieved as the Heat Electric radiator does
not constantly draw electricity once the desired room temperature is achieved.
